The Hutchings were a family that lived in Congo just outside east of Moruya and they employed these young Aboriginal men when they were boys and they have stories of them. Patricia knew Barbara Roach nee Hutchings. The Hutching were an early non Aboriginal family in the area and were very respectful.

Image & text: Percy Davis, John Campbell and Charlie Parsons
Text reads: "Percy Davis with violin, John Campbell and Charlie Parsons playing hte gum leaf. Congo c. 1940. When my father was a small boy he played with young Aboriginal boys who lived not far away from his house in Congo. They belonged to the Congo tribe. A sub tribe of the South Coast Aboriginals. My grandmother would give them pants to wear when they played near the house, which they would remove when they left. Their names were Percy Davis, Charlie Parsons and John Campbell. When dad moved us all to Congo they occasionally came to stay to help him keep a lookout for school fish. One memorable night Dad arranged a campfire concert for tourists. With Percy. Charlie & John Campbell to play for us. Percy sang a song he had written about a boy who had drowned. It was so sad he wept and couldn’t go on."
