Actors & Performers, Dancers, Prominent People & Knowledge Holders

Warren Ngarrae Foster is a respected Djiringandj/Yuin, cultural knowledge-keeper, artist, and storyteller from Wallaga Lake on the South Coast of New South Wales. He has dedicated his life to revitalising language, ceremony, song, dance, and connection to Country, bridging ancient traditions with contemporary expression.

As founder and leader of the Gulaga Dancers, he has enabled traditional men’s dance to remain a living practice, touring nationally and internationally to share Yuin stories. He has also served as a cultural advisor to the National Museum of Australia, Bangarra Dance Theatre, and the National Library.

Warren is deeply involved in the Aboriginal Languages Trust initiative Yoowaga Yuinda (All Yuin Talk), where he speaks on and teaches local dialects (including Djiringandj, Dhurga and related Yuin dialects) and shares stories in language to continue revitalisation.

Warren often shares Creation stories such as those of Gulaga (Mother Mountain) and the Ancestral figure Gurung-gubba (the Greedy Pelican), recounting how the arrival of the ship Endeavour was seen through Aboriginal eyes. He also hosts guided cultural walks around Wallaga Lake through Yannaga Yoowaga Tours, teaching bush tucker, storytelling, sustainable practices, and his deep connection to Country.

For Warren, storytelling is more than performance, it is living history. He describes traditional dance and song as ancient means of recording and transmitting Lore, Language and Country. He continues to mentor youth, re-establish language and Lore, and foster respect for Yuin Culture and Country.
