collection Description

The Bega Valley Historical Society holds a small collection of nine locally crafted wooden hand tools known as the McPaul collection. These tools were created by Yuin people near Tanja in the 1880s and were given to a local teacher, Mr. Thomas Henry McPaul. Mr. McPaul worked closely with the Yuin people, and when he moved to Sydney in 1889, they gifted him these tools, which he took with him. In 2001, Mr. McPaul’s descendants donated the collection to the Bega Valley Historical Society and the Bega Pioneers Museum.

Welcome to the Yuin Digital Keeping Place. This website is intended to record and share information on events and people that have impacted on Yuin history, language and lifestyle. Over the coming years, we will include an even wider and richer collection of stories from Yuin Families.
