collection Description

Bermagui Historical Society and Museum have a digital collection of over 11,000 professional scanned photographs and records, where searches can be made of our database by topic or name. This archive includes a collection of 840 images digitally reproduced from the glass negatives taken by Tilba resident William Henry Corkhill between 1880 and 1910 including many photographs of Yuin people. This collection is also available at the National Library of Australia, but was Bermague Historical Society collection was digitally restored by local archivist Dave Cotton and catalogued into various topics. The museum collection also includes images of Yuin people in cricket and football teams, the Giiyong Gumleaf Band and various Yuin Elders as well as collections donated by local families that include photographs of local gatherings and sporting groups. The collection, both digital and physical images, can be accessed in person at Bermagui Museum. Only a limited number of images are available online.
