collection Description
From 1990 to 2017, Penny Jones photographed First Nations families in Wallaga Lake and Bermagui. These images were donated to Bega Valley Shire Library and were digitised, archived and indexed. They are available on Bega Valley Shire Library’s website.
“These photos were taken over many years and represent many generations. I think they show, more than words ever could, the warmth, strength and beauty of these First Peoples of the Far South Coast of NSW.
They came about through my work as a tutor at Wallaga Lake and Bermagui. Homework was done in the clinic, in homes, under trees, in my van.
With the kids as my guide, we roamed over beaches and mountains, ate white bread and devon and drove into the ground a Renault, a Honda, a Kingswood, a Cortina, a van, a Falcon, a Nissan Pulsar and about six or seven Toyota Corollas.’ – Penny Jones
